I was on Digg today and this is the most stupidest thing I’ve seen Apple do. Threaten bloggers who post information about using iPhone’s interface on their PocketPC’s! Someone made a skin for the PocketPC to look like the iPhone’s buttons. Apple says it’s copyrighted material, their ones to speak!
The icon package has also been taken off the forums. This isn’t the first time Apple pursued something like this, previously, they were throwing lawsuits around to bloggers who mention iPhone’s design. LOL
Heres a picture of the comparason:

Oh and if you find the download good luck and let me know. We’ll put it on RapidShare for everyone!* The author says that there were over 500 downloads of the mod but was forced to take it down because of the lawsuit letter received from Apple lawyers.
* LOL I’m gonna get sued for saying that. Lame Apple!

So much of their success is built upon good design rather than technological advancement. This is exploited by company’s amazing ability to ramp up the tension in the run up to the Macworld and WWDC conferences. Apart from film studios, I know of no other company that can whip its customers and the media in to such a frenzy before they launch a new product. All this relies on secrecy, if they can’t keep their plans secret then they will lose the big bang of media coverage that accompanies a new product launch. The problem with obsessive secrecy is that it breeds paranoia. And this is one of the reasons why I have gone off Apple. They will happily sue anyone who breaks news of upcoming products, there are very few other companies who do this. Recently they threatened to sue anyone who linked to a new Pocket PC theme that mimicked the iPhone interface. This is not the behaviour I would expect from a ‘cool’ company.
