Uggh, Wasted 4 Hours On Ubuntu Beryl

Today I tried installing Beryl with Ubuntu Linux and dual boot it with my Windows. My efforts were a waste because I found out the MD5 did not check after I had screwed up the installation. :( So I spent 4 hours restoring my Windows to working order. For some reason, the BIOS did not recognize the hard drive and I had to install a whole new installation and used Norton’s PartitionMagic to restore my Windows installation.

I’m going to purchase a new hard drive [seperate from windows] and try again the next time I come home. Maybe SuSE with Beryl. I leave for Stony Brook tomorrow afternoon. My weekend home was so far, NOT productive!

Happy Chinese New Years! :)

I was able to dual-boot Ubuntu and Windows on my laptop last month! I was pretty terrified to complete it, but a friend showed me the way, and it didn’t suck too much. It works now, but I have some problems connecting to my wifi network – it usually takes around 5-10 minutes in the terminal.

Anyway, that sucks for you. :( Luckily, my laptop came pre-partitioned, so I didn’t have to worry much about that as I didn’t use the second half.

Hopefully it will work on the second hard drive?

Yeah, the next time I burn an ISO such as an OS, I will check the MD5 checksums. A successful CD burnt doesn’t mean anything! lol

    u try 6.10 or 7.04?

    Try 6.10 =)))

Well the MD5 checksum failed. And installation stalled at 41%. I downloaded 6.10 Edgy.

LOL! did you also try to install Beryl?!

I run a SuSE Forums here at forums.suselinuxsupport.de

Check it out for support, I haven’t had much time recently to visit there regularly. HEHE!

I did! After I read this entry, I noticed how awesome it was and decided t o give it a go. That made my computer sad.

I was able to disable it, but I still can’t get it back to the default resolution, no matter how many times I run that freakin’ hardware reconfiguration thing.

    Did you try sax2?

I haven’t, but I just tried. It’s not pre-installed, and Synaptic doesn’t have much on it. I’ll keep looking, though. Thanks.

Some guy on the Ubuntu forums: “Tried to install to kubuntu/edgy no joy it needed swig which I installed but had too many dependancy breakages.”

And I’m using the GNOME version, anyway. :(
