OpenDNS was founded by David Ulevitch in 2005. Since then it has grown tremendously. OpenDNS is an alternate DNS service, it’s faster, smarter and safer to use compared to your default ISP provided DNS service.
I’ve tested this myself and can confirm that it doesn’t browsing faster. It’s really noticeable on websites such as MySpace.com. It’s smarter because it figures out common spelling mistakes when typing the URL into the address bar, it fixes common mistakes such as .og and automatically changes it to .org. It’s safer because it has a built in phishing detector to keep out unsafe sites.
The addresses for Open DNS are:
- 208.67.222.222
- 208.67.220.220
I highly recommended! Try it at OpenDNS.org. It only takes about 2 minutes to setup!
