Goodbye NYC Back To The Brookies For Me

I had a good time home but now it’s time to get outta here. To Stony Brook I go! I had the worst goodbye ever from someone I will miss dearly.

I’ll miss the NYC Big Apple feeling, won’t be coming back for a month or so. Feel free to come visit me, y’all know EOP does it big! LOL! :P Riding limos and hittin’ up parties. So, yeah, it’s time to get back to work for me. I’ll miss the family too, thats for everything.

So far, I’ve packed my bags and will meet a friend up tomorrow so we can take the LIRR together. By 2:00PM tomorrow, I should be there. The first thing I’m gonna do there is chill with the gang before work actually starts Monday.

This will be my last post here before I leave, so good night world!

Leah Kauffman – My Box In A Box

This might be old news to some of you but it’s actually really funny how Leah Kauffman’s music career start off. She created a satire to SNL’s “My Dick In A Box” music video. Bam! she was a hit, radio stations across the nation were playing her song. Her music video was seen over 3 million times just on YouTube alone. Besides, I think shes a cute. :)

She then went on to sell her video prop, the infamous “Box” with a door on eBay for $1,525, all the money is going to charity. Heres the eBay link!

Never Waste A Cellphone Minute + Bonus

I found a “loophole” around never using your cellphone minutes again PLUS you can call most of the world [international] for FREE. This method will work for your T-Mobile myFaves plans. This might work for the meantime but T-Mobile might disable this “Hack” if they find out or this gets popular! :)

So check this out, I posted an entry last week about calling select countries for free. Well, theoretically, if you add that free international calling number as one of your myFaves number, you can get unlimited free calls to anywhere in the US and to most other countries! This does not come without hassle though, you have to jot down numbers or remember them to use this service.

Three (3) Easy Steps For Setup:

  1. Have a T-Mobile myFaves Plan, they start at $39.99.
  2. Add 712-858-8094 to your myFaves Plan. You can add 5 numbers.
  3. Call the number and listen and dial any number you want to call.

It’s that easy to do! This method is a hassle but can help when you have no minutes! :P

For a list of countries you can call for free, see my previous post here!

Yet another use for your hand helds! A new service offered by Perooz.com allows you to download videos, music and HOT magazines straight to your Apple iPod’s, Sony PSP’s, Microsoft Zune’s, Palm Treo’s and Blackberry’s, Creative Zen’s and MORE!. So whats the big jiffy? Well these devices can play music and videos but none of them are able to view full colored magazines optimized for their devices until now.

No software or new installations are required for this service. This is basically some image scans of the magazines and using your devices image viewer, you can view them. So who needs a periodical on the train when you have your cool hand held devices. The site looks to be HOT and well maintained!

Demo The Apple iPhone Ringtone

During Steve Jobs’s keynote at MacWorld in San Francisco last week, he featured the iPhone as we know. In his keynote he made the iPhone play it’s ring tone. How did it get out to the public? Well apparently someone attending the keynote had it recorded and went home and edited out the sound of the many hundreds who were yelling in amazement. So how the ring tone got out was a very difficult process, thanks to the Anonymous user at Gizmodo.

P.S: Steve Jobs, please don’t unleash your lawyers at me. Steve, your such an angel!

So without furtheradue, I present you the short iPhone ringtone:

What Is Web 2.0? CEO’s 2.0 Companies Not Sure

Web 2.0, a term coined in 2004 by Tim O’Reily [O'Reily Media] but what does it really mean? Does it mean flashy graphics and cool logo’s, does it mean user interaction, social bookmarking, programmable applications via browser [AJAX]? In fact it’s all of those and more. Some of the CEO’s of the biggest Web 2.0 companies don’t have an exact definition of it because Web 2.0 keeps changing and growing. This comes after the 2001 dot com bubble burst which changed how the world interacts on the internet.

How is from “Web 1.0″? A Simple Chart Shows You

How The CEO’s of Big Web 2.0 Companies See It: (TechCrunch)

[flashvideo width="320" height="240" filename="http://vid108.photobucket.com/albums/n38/milener2/Web2-0_24mins.flv" returnpage="http://www.tonycai.com/2007/01/16/what-is-web-20-ceos-of-20-companies-arent-sure/" /]

Is there a Bubble for Web 2.0?

I personally as a experienced blogger don’t think so, programming on the web is as good as it gets. Any newer technologies are years from now. Web 1.0 lasted 7 years but with Web 2.0, the possibilities are endless and if anything theres 7 more years till it bursts. Web 2.0 just began! Muhaha.

Take a look at Web 2.0 companies here!

Netflix Going IP TV – Will Blockbuster Follow?

So as I previously blogged about media not being on CD’s anymore, refer to my post about installing Windows Vista without using any CD disc media. The world of technology is changing fast, as we know bandwidth are getting larger and that allows us to download a vast number of things easily and quickly. Especially with competition and services like Verizon FiOS [Fiber to the Premises] and Optimum Boost, Americans are getting a lot faster connections for a more affordable price. I still can’t say it compares to the broadband services like the UK or Japan offers but we’re slowly getting there.

Now back to my original topic, YES!, Netflix is going IPTV, soon [as in this week] you can rent movies online by downloading them, however, this isn’t UNLIMITED downloads as long as you pay a subscription fee like the snail mail service that Netflix provides, wouldn’t that be great! LOL. But you pay by the number of hours of video you download. The quality of the downloads are going to be close to DVD quality, Netflix has setup the service for up to 6 million subscribers as of now but is expecting 250,000 initial subscribes in their first month.

Snail Mail NetFlix:

NetFlix IPTV:

Since people stopped renting video cassettes from stores and started to switch to CD media, Blockbuster had lost a lot of business. In the past few years, Blockbuster has been struggling to keep up with NetFlix’s Snail Mail service, because we Americans are just too damn lazy to go out to the store. Will Blockbuster provide a similar service soon? We’ll wait and see!

As of now, unfortunately, it’s only available to PC users with the IE browser. We, Mac and Linux users are always being discriminated against, but we’ll show them who’s boss in a few more years!!

Refer to my previous posting about NO CD’s:

First OpenDNS Problem Since Jan 6 2007

This is my first reported problem since using the great service that OpenDNS provides, some of the sites that I visit from Digg and including my own website today did not resolve. Strange so I checked the DNS name servers to see if my host was down, it wasn’t that. I doubled checked by using a online cgi proxy and the site showed up without a problem so the problem had to be with OpenDNS. Meanwhile I have switched back to my Optimum Online DNS service to post this problem on my blog.

I checked with OpenDNS’s status page, all their servers seem to be up at the moment, looks like others are having this same problem too. If anything like this happens to you where OpenDNS are having problems, simple take out the DNS settings on your router by following the same directions on OpenDNS.com and restore them back to 0.0.0.0 or default blank.

However, once they fix the problem I’ll switch back because their service has really made my online browsing experience faster! Take a look at their 2007 plans.

Defiantly give them a try, I blogged about OpenDNS twice already.

WordPress 2.07 Upgrade Completed

WordPress 2.07 just came out 2 hours ago and I have grabbed the script and upgraded it from WordPress 2.06, there aren’t any surprises to the upgrade, everything went smoothly. They fixed a Feedburner bug as well as other smaller details.

When upgrading your WordPress engine, be sure never to delete these files:

  • wp-config.php file;
  • wp-content folder; Special Exception: the wp-content/cache folder should be deleted.
  • wp-images folder;
  • wp-includes/languages/ folder–if you are using a language file do not delete that folder;
  • .htaccess file–if you have added custom rules to your .htaccess, do not delete it;
  • robots.txt file–if your blog lives in the root of your site (ie. the blog is the site) and you have created such a file, do not delete it.

At the time of this post, they have not released the change log:
http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Versions

Affected files from WordPress 2.06:

  • wp-admin/inline-uploading.php
  • wp-admin/post.php
  • wp-includes/classes.php
  • wp-includes/functions.php
  • wp-settings.php
  • wp-includes/version.php

Things they fixed in this release:

  • Security fix for wp_unregister_GLOBALS() to work around the zend_hash_del_key_or_index bug in PHP 4 versions less than 4.4.3 and PHP 5 versions less than 5.1.4 with register_globals set to “On.”
  • Feeds now properly serve 304 Not Modified headers instead of mismatched 200/304 headers (a.k.a. the FeedBurner bug).
  • Backport of another 304 Not Modified fix from WordPress 2.1
  • Deleting WordPress Pages no longer gives an “Are You Sure?” prompt.
  • After deleting a WordPress Page, you are now properly redirected to the Edit Pages screen.
  • Sending an image at original size in Internet Explorer no longer adds an incorrect “height” attribute.

Good luck on upgrading your copy of WordPress, remember to backup your database and your wp-content files before beginning! You shouldn’t see any problems. :)

Song of the day for the new fix! YAY!
